For the first time in the history of Lovedale, the Lovedale graduation ceremony had to be held at a new venue and over a two-day period, because of the huge increase in numbers of students graduating and receiving awards. The ceremonies were held on 1 and 2 September at one of King William’s Town’s most prestigious tourist attractions, the Steve Biko Centre in Ginsberg.
This was an extremely exciting occurrence, as Lovedale is, relatively speaking, a very small college in terms of student enrolment and capacity. Over 500 students obtained their National Certificate Vocational, National N6 and Diplomas in 2015. Merit awards were also presented to the top performing students in their various categories. Excited parents and students attended the ceremony, waiting patiently to see their child appear on stage.
The college managed to secure two excellent local and well-loved keynote speakers: Ms Tabisa Mwrebi from Tabisa Speaks and Professor Ntombozuko Duku from the University of Fort Hare. The speakers both drew from their own life experiences to encourage and motivate the graduates.
