COEGA is a government owned entity in the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan area which incorporates a major industrial development zone that also assists in addressing skills shortages and unemployment, amongst other things.
This parastatal has provided Lovedale with a driving simulator on which the students can learn all the rules of the road, how to be a responsible driver, driving in different weather conditions and so much more. They also provide a vehicle that is used for students to learn to drive, and in which they can take their driver’s test.
The project is aimed at helping graduates to obtain their learner’s and driver’s licences so that they will be able to go into the working world with a driver’s licence in addition to their qualification. Learners do not pay for the lessons; the only costs incurred by them are the licence booking and testing fees at the Traffic Department.
PLEASE NOTE: This is a social responsibility project. The driver training is also open to unemployed members of the public for individuals between 18-35 free of charge, but please note that bookings are subject to demand and Lovedale students get first preference.
